Overview

The Glasgow School of Art is one of Europe's leading institutions for visual creative disciplines, with a global reputation for artistic excellence and innovation. We joined the project to provide ongoing support and enhancements to their existing website, ensuring their digital presence stays as contemporary and functional as the work produced within their studios.

The Problem

GSA's website serves multiple distinct audiences, including current students, alumni, researchers, and prospective applicants. Over time, page layouts had drifted from their original design intent, with inconsistencies in spacing, typography, and component behaviour across different templates. Performance and accessibility also needed attention to meet the standards expected of a leading educational institution.

The Build

We worked across multiple page templates to enhance layout consistency, accessibility, and performance. Updates included refining the editorial structure for exhibition pages, degree show galleries, and academic event listings. We collaborated closely with GSA's internal team to support content rollouts tied to exhibitions, open days, and student showcases, ensuring each launch landed with visual polish.

Performance tuning focused on asset optimisation and loading strategies, while accessibility improvements covered colour contrast, keyboard navigation, and screen reader compatibility across the template library.

The Outcome

GSA's website now delivers a more consistent, accessible experience across all audience touchpoints. The template refinements mean new pages inherit proper layout structure by default, reducing the effort required for each content rollout. The ongoing partnership has given their internal team confidence that the site can scale with the institution's needs while showcasing the vibrancy of its creative community.
